I'll admit it, I don't drive. Yes, I even let my California License expire to purposely pursue a life as a pedestrian. With that being said, I still found a way to demo Ford's new navigation system at Internet Week New York. Ford's SYNC system is complete with voice recognition software that's awe-inspiring. Here are some of it's most notable SYNC features:
Hands-free Calling
Turn-by-Turn Directions
911 Assist
Music Search
Vehicle Health Report
Personalized Daily Info
Business Search
Traffic Alerts
Audible Text Messages

Meebo has long been a company solely focused on aggregating different IM platforms so you can chat with your friends all over the web in one place. They have since evolved by adding a browser bar dashboard - the Meebo MiniBar- that allows you to chat, comment and check in to websites to gain badges.
To me, the most interesting thing about their new MiniBar is that it's a non-intrusive always on universal IM. Checking in to the websites is a lot less interesting considering VoyURL passively tracks your surfing habits and then allows you to modify how that data is displayed. I don't really need any more pointless badges. I need something that will save me time not make more work for me.

Pepsi recently rolled out a new type of vending machine, a social vending machine. This week at the Internet Week Headquarters they debuted it to the tech savvy social media crowd. The great thing about this is that it isn't just another meaningless slogan about how a soft drink will make your life happier - it's actually a way to make you AND your friends' lives happier.
The whole front of the social vending machine is a touchscreen, which makes it really intuitive to most people as most people have touched a touch screen somewhere by now. You have the option to buy, redeem or gift a drink.
To gift a drink you have to put in your name, your friend's name, their phone number and a message for them that they'll see in a text format. Right now you cant send a drink via email, Twitter or Facebook, but you will be at some point in the future. The great part about the whole experience is that it asks you record a short video, which adds to the happiness factor.
Most people trying out the machine didn't expect to record themselves which made for interesting experiences. Being at an event left room for friends of friends and random passersby to make funny cameos in the background, much to the bemusement of all.
I can see these in movie theaters, bowling alleys, concert halls and any event space where people gather for enjoyment. By that time I'm sure all of the social sharing features will be enabled, including posting your recorded video greeting to your friend's social profile.

Internet Week HQ in New York City is a recently popular phenomenon, that is an absolute blast to attend. The first stop on my list was the Metropolitan Pavilion. The expo space is filled with some really fascinating exhibits, one in particular that really hit home was called Digital Archaeology. It's an exhibition that celebrates the past 20 years of the web with 28 different websites that inspired a generation of designers. Subsequently depicting the most profound websites each year on hardware related to that year. seeing the NeXT Station (Steve Job's original creation) circa 1991 is absolutely mind boggling, it's hard to fathom how far we have come in such a short time. A little known fact about the Next Computer: it was a high-end workstation computer manufactured by Steve Jobs FOR $6500 and became the first server to ever connect to the Internet! Along with this historic computer you'll also see a variety of other computers like the PowerMac 6500 (1996), Macintosh Performa (1995), PowerBook 3400c (1994), iMac G3 (1997), and websites that will bring out the old-school geek in you.
